There are several different wind power kits that you can choose from. One example is the budget kit and in the budget kit, you are provided with everything you need to generate your own electricity and help you with your energy needs. This system comes with 6 major parts.

The first part is called the turbine Rutland 503 which is ideal and has the ability to produce 60 watt which would power roughly 5 or 6 Energy Saving light bulbs. Luckily since the energy is stored in a battery you can later on use it with equipment that requires a higher amount of power.

Then you have the rigging which is 1m of steeling tubing. That is used to mount the turbine however it is up to you to mount it on a suitable location. Next you have the cable which is 10 meters you use this to run between the turbine and the regulator. The regulator is hrs503 which is specifically made for the turbine that is in this kit.

The fifth element in this kit is the battery. The battery that was chosen is an AGM 35 which is a maintenance free battery. Finally the last but definitely not least item is the inverter which is a Genius 150 watt the inverter must turn the DC current in to AC current that powers household appliances. They chose this to make sure that the battery does not deplete too quickly and what this means to you is that you can plug in appliances up to 150 watts.

Of course also provided to you are the instructions. There are a few other different Home Wind Power kits that you can choose from like the mid range kit which for not that much more money, provides a great deal more electricity. However in the end it is up to you to choose the kid that will satisfy your electricity needs.

Hole Saw Kit

I’d like to know where I can buy taut wire from which to hang my art.?

I saw a show a long time ago, on HGTV or something like it, about some guy’s house and the one cool thing I’ve remembered is the way he decorated his walls… he strung taut wires all the way across his walls and hung pictures from the wire in different places… (sort of like a clothesline type thing) and by doing that he was able to avoid having holes in his walls and he was also able to move the art around and change it up as many times as he wanted to. I’d like to do something like that in my own house… and I would like to know if there is such a product (the taut wire + installation kit) that would allow me to do it. Would anybody know where such a product is sold?

Since I can’t picture exactly what you’re describing my best suggestion is to go to someplace like Lowe’s or Home Depot and explain to them what you’d like to do. They should be able to help you.

A lot of times HGTV will put up pictures from their episodes so maybe you can even find a picture of it if you search their site.

Good luck, it sounds really neat. I’d love to not have nail holes all over the place, especially when it comes to the holidays!

Repairing Flat Tires On A Scooter

The tires and the spokes of the scooter will require daily inspection to ensure you have no problems, and that your ride will be a safe one. If you are faced with broken spokes, you should repair them right away to prevent additional breakage. If you have a flat tire, you will also need to have someone change it, plug it or repair it so you can continue riding the scooter. Riding the scooter with a flat tire is going to bend and chip the rims, the wheels, and will not provide you with the smooth ride you are accustomed.

For flat tires, there is a canister type of solution you can purchase which is known as fix a flat, which will fix flat tires, plugging holes in the rubber tire. The Fix a flat is a canister that will plug right into the tire, inflating the tire as it plugs the hole at the same time. The Fix a flat is going to work on the tires that are rubber, the same as your car. This type of repair is not going to work on the tire with a tube or the tire that has a major cut in it. Repairs to the tire that has a large gash will require replacement of the tire. Most all medical supply houses, and scooter retail outlets do make replacement tires easy to purchase.

Regular reviewing and maintenance of your tires will be required. If you are not using your scooter for long periods, you should at least have someone move the tires around, so they are not sitting on one portion of the tire for weeks on end. Dry rot is a problem for tires not used often. A scooter not used for three months at a time can easily have dry rot on the tire. Dry rot can be spotted by the cracks in the tires, which can easily then lead to air leaks.

Most scooter accessories can be bought either new or old depending upon your preference and how much you are willing to spend on them. However before buying old parts make sure that they are in a good condition or else they too might have to be replaced soon.

To prevent the need to fix flat tires, to fix broken spokes, and to prevent dry rot on any scooter tire, you should consider the purchase of tires, which are solid. Solid tires are available with or without tread. Solid tires never require air. If you have tires that do require air, you can pump up the tires with a bike pump or with an air compressor.

Getting the best from a Spray Foam Insulation kit

Surface Preparation

Area of application should be clean, dry and free of grease, oil, dust or dirt. Ensure the area has adequate ventilation. If flow-through ventilation isn’t possible, wear respiratory mask, if the smell becomes overwhelming, exit the area until the fumes dissipate. No fumes or vapours are released from the foam once it has cured.

Setting up

Before setting up make sure the tank contents and surface to be insulated are at the optimum temperature. Tank contents should be between 60-80oF (15.6-26.7oC) during dispensing. To ensure maximum performance ambient and substrate temperature should be 60-80oF (15.6-26.7oC), preferable 70-80oF (21-26oC). Agitate the tanks by shaking the cylinders to thoroughly mix contents and ensure an even distribution of temperature.

Checking the Gun for Proper Function

Good quality foam is dependent upon one-to-one ratio dispensing. The easiest way to determine that you have good ratio is to observe the stream of chemicals coming out of the gun before they pass through the mixing nozzle. Be sure that both chemicals are dispensing from the gun PRIOR to your application, ALWAYS do a test shot into a waste container. To do this, remove the nozzle from the gun and point the gun into a waste container.

Step by step

1. Put on gloves, safety goggles and suitable clothing or overalls. Set up the system in an upright position (valve on tanks facing up) and open the top of the carton. Take the gun applicator/hose assembly out of the carton.

2. Through the openings in the back of the carton, connect the hoses to the tanks hand tighten, then tighten thoroughly with a spanner.

3. Slowly open valve on each tank. Make sure tanks are FULLY OPENED. Check the hose/tank connections for leaks.

4. Fold flaps to re-close box.

5. The gun applicator is set in the OFF position when manufactured. To unlock, push switch to the ON position.

6. Direct the gun applicator into a waste container. Squeeze the trigger completely. Make sure that two strong streams spray out of the gun applicator.

7. Select a disposable mixing nozzle and align the slots on the nozzle with the notch on the gun applicator barrel. Push the nozzle onto the notch and twist clockwise to lock in place.

8. Direct spray nozzle into a waste container. Slowly squeeze the trigger and  check for that the chemicals are properly mixing. The foam should be off-white in colour, not white or dark brown and should cure to a tack free surface in 30-45secs. If foam is not the correct colour or is not curing properly, make sure the valves on both tanks are turned fully on and agitate the tanks. If the foam is still not curing, contact your supplier

9. To stop/pause spraying, release the trigger of the gun. If spraying is stopped for 30secs or more, remove the mixing nozzle. To re-commence spraying, fix a new/clean nozzle to the gun applicator.

Is all the items in this bundle necessary and is this a good price?

The 18-55mm kit lens is crap.
Filters you don’t need, especially the UV filter.
The extra battery is not necessary unless you plan to shoot every day for long periods of time.
The holster case is probably not the best, nor is it necessary.
The card reader would be good, but it is probably not the best.
The only cleaning kit you need really is a micro fiber cloth.

All in all, the “Pro” kit was just created to get people to buy the camera, since they want to get rid of all the extra junk at a higher price than what is worth, or what they could get for it.

My suggestion is buy the camera body, and nothing else. Then, get a better lens, not the 18-55mm kit. Get a 1 GB memory card, and that’s really all you need.

How to Build a Hydrogen Generator

Things needed: Scissors, Bottles, Knife, Carpenter pencil, Telephone wire, hot glue, glue gun, tubing, electrodes, Valve

Step1: Cut the top off a 2 liter plastic bottle and the bottoms off of two 20 ounce plastic bottles using a pair of scissors. Cut the larger bottle enough so that the two smaller bottles fit comfortably inside of it. Be sure to retain the screw on caps form the bottles.

Step2: Use a sharp utility knife to carefully cut away the wooden casing of the pencil leaving you with just the carbon graphite lead shaft. Break the lead into two separate but equal pieces using your knife.

Step3: Remove the approximately ¼ inch of insulation from two 12 inch telephone wires using a stripping pliers before removing 2 more inches of insulation from the opposite ends.

Step4: Wrap the exposed copper from the telephone wire at the 2 inch end around the ends of the pencil lead and secure in place with a little hot glue.

Step5: Use a drill to drill holes into the center of the two small pop bottle caps and attach a 24-inch long piece of plastic aquarium tubing. Secure in place by placing a little hot glue around both the inside and outside hole perimeter. Once dry, replace the caps onto the bottles by screwing into place.

Step6: Place electrodes with wire attached in the bottom side of the two small pop bottles using hot glue to secure it in place. Put the small bottles inside the large pop bottle and hot glue in place so they cannot move.

Step7: Place an aquarium 2 to 1 mixer value into the free ends of the tubing before connecting to the wires from the electrodes to the correct terminals on a 12-volt battery. It may be an idea to label the positive wire “Anode Oxygen” and the negative wire “Cathode Hydrogen.”

Packing Right for Great Motorcycle Trips

There truly is an art to properly packing and preparing for a great motorcycle trip, especially when the trip is a long distance one and you need to prepare right for the best success. Most people who do not put enough forethought into packing find that what they pack does not line up with what they end up needing for the trip, which is why planning ahead and knowing exactly what to pack is the best way to make sure you are prepared for anything and everything that comes up during your motorcycle trip. When you begin packing for your long distance motorcycle trip, begin by crafting a list that reminds you of what needs to be packed and where you intend to store it, since obviously motorcycles only offer a limited amount of space. Consider breaking your packing into different groups or categories to make the whole process easier.

If you are taking a long trip, the odds are against you in that you will probably end up having to fix something, as this is just the nature of motorcycles and long trips. Always make sure that you have tire patch and spare CO2 cartridges at the very least so that road side tire problems can be handled. You should also make sure that you have a complete portable set of wrenches, Allen wrenches and Torx wrenches. Having a small multi-tool that you can keep with you is another good idea, especially if it has an LED flashlight attached because breaking down in the middle of the night is not enjoyable if you can’t find a light.

It would also be wise to carry extra fuses, sparkplugs and light bulbs in your tool pouch just in case, along with electrical tape and zip ties for quick fixes. These repairs may not get you all the way through your trip, but they certainly will get you off the side of the road quickly.

Additionally, if you are planning long trips, you need to consider security for your motorcycle and all of your gear. It is always a good idea to consider locking up your bike, and locking up the wheels so that most motorcycle thieves will be deterred and will stay away from your bike. Carry locks that you can keep with you, so that you can pop them on quickly whenever you need to leave your motorcycle for any period of time. Portable locks are always preferable to hefty or bulky chain locks, at least in my opinion.

Things for the Rider (Gear, Snacks) -

Taking care of yourself is just as important as keeping your bike going when it comes to long motorcycle trips. For example, if you plan on riding during the day you need to think about options for skin protection from the sun, because getting sunburned can really destroy an otherwise excellent day of riding. Always make sure to carry sunscreen and lip balm at the very least. You should also make sure to bring a small, portable style first aid kit that includes bandages, antiseptic ointment and pain relievers at the very least.

In addition to having all of the right gear, there are two things that I tend to walk out of the house without that need to be remembered: Something to eat, and a cell phone with a charged battery. Bring something portable like snack bars or 100-calorie snack packs so that if you stop someplace and cannot find food, you are not left to go hungry. Also make sure that you always have a cell phone with a full battery, just in case you ever need to make a quick call. Make sure that your “In Case of Emergency” or ICE number is programmed into your phone, just in case.

Equipment for the Trip (Camping Gear, Hygiene Supplies) -

You will undoubtedly get hit by road grime during your trip, so pack some basic hygiene essentials before you go. Carry things that you can wash up with, like a washcloth and towel, and travel soap, shampoo, conditioner and other essentials. Also make sure to bring your toothbrush, toothpaste and any other dental essentials before you leave. Even if you only have a limited amount of time to worry about hygiene on your long distance motorcycle trip, a little can really go a long way so make sure you have everything that you need before you head out.

Camping equipment is not easy to carry on a motorcycle by any means, because most is bulky and cumbersome and causes more trouble than it is worth. Still, if you plan on making a long distance motorcycle trip, it may be extremely advantageous to bring as much additional gear as you can. Try to find a two man dome tent, as these tend to fold up easily, and when they spread out, they offer a lot of nice room and comfort. Self inflating mattresses are also worthwhile, even though they do take up a little bit of room on your motorcycle. They are not as cumbersome as a sleeping bag when they are deflated, but they provide much more comfort than even the softest sleeping back. Roll these things up into a sturdy protective bag and secure them to your motorcycle and you are ready to go.

IMPROVISED PAINT BOOTH

If you’re like me, you don’t have the luxury of a down-draft spray booth in your shop. Here’s what I did. I cleaned out a storage room that’s attached to the back of my shop. I lined the walls with white poly, and placed a variable speed fan in the window. I then went around with a roll of duct tape and sealed the perimeter of the fan to the surrounding poly on the walls. Now onto the lights. After the first time you try painting something, you’ll quickly learn just how critical good lighting is. In fact when it comes to lighting, the brighter your paint area the better. A buddy gave me two four-tube florescent light fixtures, which I hung on opposite sides of my new spray booth. It’s good to have reflective walls. Lining the walls with white poly not only saves your walls, but it’s also quite reflective.

SAFETY

Before I continue, I want to stress safety. It’s a very bad I idea to paint in a room that’s attached to your house. In fact, it may not be legal in some jurisdictions. Also, paint fumes are not only super toxic, they’re highly flammable. Make sure your fixtures are wired properly, and that your fixtures are fully encased with lens covers attached. Last but not least, make sure you have a good quality respirator with the correct filters for the kind of paint you’re using.

PAINT EQUIPMENT

For tools you’ll need at least two spray guns, a air regulator with a water trap, a compressor, and of course some air hose. As aforementioned, you’ll need 2 paint guns… one for painting primer, and another for painting base and clear coats.

PREP FOR PAINT

Be certain your fuel and oil tanks are pressure tested and leak free before you start. Ideally, it’s good to sandblast your metal parts, especially if they have old paint on them. If you choose not to sandblast, make sure to sand them really thoroughly and wipe them down with a non oil-based cleaner prior to starting the job.

The next step is to apply filler to the low spots and any trouble areas. It’s a matter of personal preference, but I like to spray a coat of epoxy primer prior to spraying on the base coat. This gives a nice base for the filler to adhere to. Prepare your filler in small amounts (it sets up fast) and apply it smoothly and evenly onto your part.

After the filler has dried, sand it smooth with 80 grit and look it over for any low spots or chips, then fill and sand again. After the necessary rounds of filler and sanding are finished, it’s time to prime.

Spray on a couple of coats of epoxy primer. After the primer has dried, get a spray can of black paint and very lightly spray it over your part. This is the guide coat. The light black coat will show any ripples, low spots or defects in your handy work. To repair the problem areas that the guide coat exposed, you’ll want to use flowable putty instead of filler. Apply the putty in thin even coats, then smooth it down with 80 grit sandpaper (wrapped around a rubber sanding block). Once you get the high spots leveled down, smooth it down even more with 120 grit, then finishing it with 400 grit. You’re now ready for the last round of primer. Once the primer is dry, sand it thoroughly with 400 grit to give it a toothy surface for the base coat to stick to. I like to spray on a coat of epoxy sealer just prior to spraying the base colour coat. In addition to providing a ideal surface for applying the base color, it also prevents any solvents from coming through and causing bubbles in your clear coat. Make sure to follow the paint manufacturers spec sheets with regards to mixing times, mixing ratios and painting temperature. Failure to following the instructions will cause you much grief…believe me.

BASE COAT/CLEAR COAT

Now comes the color coat. Lay down the colour coats as per your paint manufacturer’s spec sheet. Next comes the clear. After the first round of clear has dried, wet sand it down with 600 grit. You’ll notice rows of ridges appear in the clear as you sand. Keep sanding until the clear is even and the ridges are gone. If you’re painting graphics on, now is the time to put them on. After applying your graphics, cover them with another round of clear. It may take one or more rounds of clear to completely bury the graphics. Be sure to wet sand flat with 600 grit between rounds of clear. After the last round of clear has been sprayed, sand it down flat with 600 grit like before. When it’s nice and smooth, finish it off with 1500 grit. If you want to get it even more silky smooth, go for a final round of 2000 grit.

POLISHING

Now for the gratifying part. The final step is to polish it to a mirror finish. You’ll need a Variable Speed Polisher, a buffing pad, and some polishing compound. There are many different kinds of buffing compound available. Your local automotive supply store will be able to recommend a good one.

Driver Drill Kit

has anyone ever put a light rail on a kimber eclipse?

i have a kimber w/out a light rail,and i dont want to buy a new frame or a new gun, my gun is perfect its a real tack driver, could i drill and tap the frame to put a light rail on it, am i messing with any batf rules? any suggestions on where to buy a kit to do it?

This probably doesn’t help but I have an Eclipse as well and I keep a small tactical type flash light next to it night. I just rest the gun hand over the flash light hand. If things are bad I drop the flash light which hangs by by a wrist strap. It still has the night sights which helps as well.
